I will be providing all the instructions on those things as per my current knowledge level, which I THINK is just about there enough now to pull those posts off well. logarithmic scaling, using inverted filters as crossovers, and being a bit ruthless with DC. I'm just about getting to grips with that stuff enough to propose some plugin chains (inside a chainer DDMF Metaplugin, Plogue Bidule, or Bluecat Patchwork, or in the DAW if flexible enough). However, it's the parasitic capacitance, breakdown voltage, thermal noise, offset and other "non-ideal" characteristics that give the "true" tone of analogue. Volt = Airwindows PurestGain (for small signals) and BitShiftGain (for large signals) Regarding the oncoming Volt, Cap, and Diode posts, it's shockingly easy to model that stuff in "ideal" form.

If something I present is incorrect or misleading, I'll probably figure it out one day, but I'll certainly be glad of any corrections or help along the way - I'm totally learning as I go. My own studies just haven't gotten that far down the signal path yet. It intrigues me that you can find even active polarity switches. I also figure that an active filter (as opposed to passive) would feature the usual non-linearities of that active stage, something I really haven't started looking at yet. You're probably right - I haven't really looked at phase rotation in terms of DC penalty. It's also really common in pedal modding land to take a pedal that has symmetrical clipping diodes (often a Big Muff) and swap the diodes for the negative (or positive, whichever) side for a different type, rather than using a different number of for the input! These days, (of course) its done through DSP. Later, this sorta thing became all the rage using the same diode clipping topology for guitar distortion pedals (as if to emulate the single-ended circuits in some guitar amps). Their implementation of this idea relied on the same general idea of "standard" (symmetrical) clipping, but using extra diodes across one side of a center-tapped output transformer, so that there was more clipping upon one side than the other. The idea of doing this sorta thing asymmetrically began when radio engineers wanted to address the fact that positive peaks are "OK" while negative peaks screw up the modulation in AM radio. The idea of intentional clipping (as a crude limiter) was first implemented by using diodes.

Plogue 'might' even give you a discount for a Bidule license as a Pro Tools user who owns Garritan Libraries (After all, ARIA is their baby)? Of course I can't make promises on someone else's account, but It would not hurt to fire them an email explaining your investment in Garritan Libraries and ask.A single-ended amplifier circuit does this when overdriven (as a matter of course, and as a side-effect).

I don't do Pro Tools, but I'm a registered Bidule user (for a long list of purposes). If I'm wrong, and Plogue hasn't updated ARIA to compensate for this I suppose you'd need some sort of bridge to use VST/au etc. I've seen some stuff about the internet that the old RTAS stuff is blacklisted from newer versions of Pro Tools.

Note you might need to download and reinstall the latest version of ARIA player if you chose not to install these before. RTAS (.aax) plugins are included with the ARIA player. As far as I am aware you can use ARIA with Pro Tools.
